How Engagements Work

A clear path from first conversation to delivered roadmap — how HR and organisational development consulting engagements run at PeopleFirst.

How Engagements Work

The shape of a typical engagement

We keep the path predictable so sponsors know when they will be asked for access, decisions, and feedback.

1. Discovery conversation

A 45-minute call or meeting to understand the decision ahead, who holds authority, and whether a diagnostic, facilitation day, or redesign project is the right entry point. No fee for this step when you are exploring fit.

2. Written proposal

Scope, exclusions, timeline, fee, and what we need from you. You should be able to share it with finance and your executive sponsor without translating jargon.

3. Access and listening

We schedule interviews, request documents you already have, and agree confidentiality boundaries. Surprises during this phase are normal; hiding them helps nobody.

4. Working sessions

Leadership or manager sessions test emerging themes. We design for decisions, not “alignment theatre.”

5. Delivery and handover

Findings, roadmaps, or facilitation outputs arrive in writing. We walk sponsors through ownership and the first 90 days.

6. Light follow-up

Most fixed engagements include short check-ins so early priorities do not stall. Ongoing retained support is optional and scoped separately.

Where work happens

Christchurch office sessions, your sites across New Zealand, or video for distributed teams. For multi-site redesigns we plan travel in the proposal rather than adding surprise costs later.
